Locations: Duxford (Cambridge) & Bedford
Contract: Permanent, full-time
Salary: £15.75 per hour – £33,000 – £46,000 inc night-out £26/night, weekend & overtime premiums
Hours: Mon–Fri tramping, typically 4 nights out; but a mix of nights out and day work available, be at home for the important stuff!

Still family-run after 90 years, Welch Group operates 80HGVs—including brand-new electric tractors—on nationwide general haulage, pallet network and dedicated contracts.

Our trampers keep the long-haul backbone of the business moving. Your week-long runs maximise vehicle utilisation while giving customers a single, reliable point of contact.
What you’ll do
- Drive a well-equipped sleeper-cab unit, vehicles are assigned to drivers, and no agency drivers have been used in the business for over 6 years.
- Make your truck your own and take it to shows (inhouse workshops will support agreed customisation of vehicles)
- Plan safe overnight stops; claim paid night-out allowance with one tap – we don’t park in laybys!
- Handle full & part loads, back-loads and occasional trunk hub work
- Maintain immaculate digital logs, walk-around checks and ADR paperwork (if qualified)
- Act as “rolling ambassador” for Welch Group across the UK road network
- Access to some of the UK’s first fully electric HGV’s
The skills & experience you’ll bring
- LGV C+E licence & Driver CPC (ADR a plus, not essential and training available)
- Previous tramping or long-distance experience preferred
- Respect for legal hours, rest rules and safe load security
- Customer-friendly manner at delivery points and RDCs
- Comfortable using cab telematics and ePOD handheld
