Welch’s Transport Ltd (Group) has been awarded an EcoVadis Silver Medal, placing it in the 94th percentile of all companies EcoVadis assessed in the past 12 months. It was the company’s first assessment, and the submission was prepared entirely by Welch’s own team.
We’re thrilled to announce that Welch Group has been awarded a Silver Medal by EcoVadis, the sustainability ratings provider used by procurement teams around the world to assess their suppliers. Silver is awarded to the top 15% of companies EcoVadis has rated in the previous 12 months, across all industries.
Welch Group scored 81 out of 100 overall, ranking in the 94th percentile. And this was the very first time our business had ever been assessed, which makes it a result the whole team is celebrating.
Built from our own evidence
What makes us proudest of all is how it was achieved. There was no sustainability consultancy behind the submission and no external advisers preparing the evidence.
Our own team gathered every policy, procedure, certificate and record, using only the guidance EcoVadis makes available to every company it assesses. The submission was led by Managing Director Chris Welch himself.
EcoVadis analysts then reviewed that evidence against 21 sustainability criteria. They also check what is said about a company in thousands of public sources through their 360° Watch process. In short, our score reflects how Welch actually runs, documented by the people who run it. That is something to shout about.
Chris Welch, Managing Director, said: “What makes our result special is that there was no polish on this. We put the bare facts about how Welch operates in front of EcoVadis: our own policies and our own records. I led the submission myself, with no consultants and no outside help. To come out in the top 15% on our first attempt tells me we’ve been doing the right things for a long time. But Silver isn’t where we stop. I’m personally committed to leading this business to Gold, and the work to get there starts now.”
How we scored
EcoVadis assesses four themes. Our theme scores were:
EcoVadis Sustainability Rating · Silver Medal
How Welch Group scored
| Theme | Score |
|---|---|
| Environment | 81/100 |
| Labour & Human Rights | 81/100 |
| Ethics | 79/100 |
| Sustainable Procurement | 79/100 |
| Overall score | 81/100 |
Scores out of 100. All four themes rated ‘Advanced’ by EcoVadis. Assessment published October 2026.
All four themes sit in EcoVadis’s ‘Advanced’ performance band. In Environment, our score places us well above the majority of the 1,000-plus road freight companies EcoVadis has assessed in the past year.
For a fourth-generation family haulier, that’s a fantastic result, and one every member of our team should feel proud of.
What this means for our customers
Our customers’ own carbon and sustainability targets depend partly on the partners who move their goods. More and more of the businesses we work with ask their logistics partners for an EcoVadis rating. Some use it as a condition of tendering, some build it into RFP scoring, and many use it to track supplier performance year on year.
Our rating gives those teams an independent, comparable benchmark, rather than relying on our word alone. We are excited to be able to share it:
- Already using EcoVadis?
We can share our full scorecard with you directly through the EcoVadis network.
- Tendering or reviewing suppliers?
Our rating, scores and Recognition Page link are available for RFP and supplier onboarding submissions.
- Not using EcoVadis?
Our Recognition Page sets out what the medal means and how it was assessed. Our team is happy to talk through the detail.
Matt Moore, Commercial Manager at Welch Group, said: “This is great news for our customers. An increasing number of our clients are turning to EcoVadis when they choose and review their logistics partners. It gives them an independent, like-for-like benchmark they can rely on, rather than having to take a supplier’s word for it. For customers with their own sustainability targets to hit, being able to share our scorecard and show exactly how we were assessed makes those conversations much simpler.”
Where we go next
We are celebrating this Silver Medal, but it is not the finish line, and the scorecard is clear about where we can improve. Our policies and the actions behind them scored strongly. The area with most room to grow is reporting: publishing the measurable data that shows our progress over time.
Throughout 2027, we will be strengthening how we measure and report our sustainability performance. That includes the KPIs our customers increasingly need for their own supply chain reporting. We will be reassessed next year, and we cannot wait to build on this brilliant start.
